This easy espresso soda is a refreshing and lightly sweet drink with a bold coffee flavor. The homemade espresso syrup adds a rich taste, and you can make it with or without alcohol. Perfect for a summer treat or a fun coffee twist!
Ingredients Needed:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup espresso beans, crushed in a mortar and pestle
- Ice cubes
- 8 shots of very cold coffee-flavored liqueur, optional
- 8 shots of very cold vodka, optional
- 8 cups of very cold club soda
How To Make Espresso Soda?
- Make the espresso syrup: In a saucepan, mix sugar and water, then bring to a boil over high heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves (about 2 minutes).
- Infuse the coffee flavor: Remove from heat, add crushed espresso beans, and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Chill the syrup: Strain out the espresso beans, cover, and refrigerate until very cold (at least 2 hours).
- Assemble the drink: Fill 8 tall glasses with ice and pour ¼ cup of the cold espresso syrup into each glass.
- Add alcohol (optional): If using, add 1 shot of vodka and 1 shot of coffee liqueur per glass. Stir well.
- Top with club soda: Fill each glass with very cold club soda and serve immediately.

Recipe Tips:
- Use finely crushed espresso beans for stronger flavor: The smaller the coffee pieces, the more flavor they release into the syrup. If the pieces are too big, the syrup won’t have enough coffee taste.
- Let the syrup chill completely before using: Warm syrup can melt the ice too fast and make the drink watery. For the best taste, refrigerate the syrup for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Use very cold club soda for the best fizz: If the club soda is not cold, it will lose its bubbles faster when mixed with the syrup. Keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to pour.
- Stir well before drinking: The syrup is heavy and can settle at the bottom. Stir the drink gently to mix everything evenly and enjoy a balanced flavor in every sip.
- Adjust the syrup amount to your taste: If you like a stronger coffee flavor, add more syrup. If you prefer a lighter and less sweet drink, use less syrup and more club soda.
How To Store Leftovers?
Cool the espresso syrup to room temperature, then store it in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Stir before using and mix with fresh club soda and ice.
